Aviator Hat

In the Free Crochet Parrot Hat Pattern I told you guys how, in the winter months, I spend a lot of my time as a vendor for multiple large boutiques/events in my area. While selling my handmade projects at these events, I have received so many questions from customers and one of the most popular questions I receive is "Can you make a (fill in the blank) hat?". The question varies from different animals, prints, and added on appliqués, but I've noticed the large number of inquiries for gender neutral hats or girl hats that aren't extremely girly. Being the person I am, I try to cover all my bases and make something for everybody which is how this design came to be.

This classic and cozy aviator hat is the perfect quick project that's easily customizable for any size and color scheme. Whip up one or whip up ten, they will take you no time at all and who can resist that adorable fur brim?!

Pattern Pointers

Base
This is what the base of the hat should look like. You may have more or less rounds depending on what size is being made.

Fur Brim
After creating the base of the hat and earflaps, a fur brim will be added. Switching to bulky white yarn, sc evenly, all the way around the hat.

Front Flap
Find the center most sts (the number of sts will vary depending on what size of hat you're making) then turn the hat and fasten on with a sl st in the first st on the right hand side. Ch 1, Place one sc in the first st and in each st across.

For the next row. Ch 1, turn. Sc all the way across. Repeat until you have reached the appropriate number of rows. (the number of rows will vary depending on what size of hat you're making)

Front Flap Attachment
Once front flap has been created you will attach it to the hat.

Button Method: Fold the flap upwards, it will overlap the front of the hat. Using two 1" buttons on each side of the flap, sew the buttons onto the flap while securing the flap to the hat.

No Button Method: Small embellishments may be a choking hazard to small children and babies, please use your best judgement with attaching small objects onto handmade projects. If you would rather not use buttons you can use regular thread to secure the flap to the hat by sewing a few sts on each side of the flap.
